BFP project sites

GIZ is currently supporting Biodiversity and Forest Program in four regional states of Ethiopia. It provides technical and financial support in three major components, which are forestry, conservation and biosphere reserves. Since Amhara is one of the regional states supported by this program, the technical coordination office is based in Amhara Forest Enterprise main office at Bahirdar.

Ethiopia has a consolidated system in place to preserve its biodiversity

Program objectives

Institutions responsible for the management of protected and forest areas are in a position to implement strategies, instruments and measures for the protection and sustainable management of biological diversity ⟨including sustainable forest management⟩ on a broad scale.

    •  Sylvicultural competencies (planting, thinning & exploitation) enhanced
    •  Forest landscape restoration (ecological, economic, social) introduced and implemented
    •  Community Livelihood Improved through alternative income promoted

    •  Approaches for ecosystems protection are implemented
    •  Protection of national park is improved
    •  Land use planning is piloted
